Helping the Kherson Region

October 25, 2023

The Collectives recently delivered aid to the villages in the Kherson Region that have been affected by the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant.

During the trip, we visited 5 villages, 4 of which had also been occupied before the terrorist attack on the HEPP. Many buildings there had been damaged by shelling.

Water added to the destruction: traditionally, walls here have been built of materials that aren’t resistant to flooding. So some houses or walls collapsed, while others were still standing exclusively thanks to the plaster covering the walls. The flooded places stink horribly of a swamp and dead fish.

Using the funds raised for this trip, we bought 1 powerful diesel heat cannon and 10 smaller gas ones with 50 liter gas canisters for each of them. People will be able to use these to dry out the walls of their flooded houses. We also gave the locals 7 high-pressure washers with water intake hoses so they can clean their buildings and yards, antifungal and anti-mold agents to treat the walls. We also brought a lot of animal feed, dry rations, blankets, etc. And our friends from Femsolution provided cleaning supplies, washing detergent, and hygiene items.

We took kitchen appliances (an electric water boiler, a microwave, pots), 2 beds and mattresses to Natalia in Komyshany. This small woman told us how she was saving her goats while she was showing us her house and yard.

In Kherson itself, you can hear explosions constantly. There, we brought some pet food to the Chance shelter which is currently home to about 200 animals.

On our way back, we visited the village of Myrne and brought some construction tools. The village was not affected by the water, but, like many others, was in the line of fire for a long time. There’s hardly a house here that hasn’t been damaged.

We went back to Kyiv with 8 kittens and one crow saved from the flood. All of them will receive medical care and will be looking for a home.
